The first chapter of Fujisawa’s latest series Ino-Head Gargoyle, a new manga which focuses on veteran GTO and Shonan Junai Gumi supporting character Saejima Toshiyuki, has officially hit the stands today in Kodansha’s 7th issue of Young Magazine for 2012. The chapter consists of a whopping 47 pages and kicks off with 4 brilliantly illustrated colour pages. It’s all very exciting, and if I do say so myself, I thought the chapter was great! It would be fantastic if Vertical was able to license this too. Everyone, make sure you buy yourselves copies of Shonan 14 Days and Shonan Jun’ai Gumi so we can make this happen!

I’ll try and give a quick summary of the chapter without giving too much away.

We’re reintroduced to Saejima sitting in his Inokashira Park police box, alongside his handsome junior-cop partner Okita. There’s been a rumour floating around Kichijoji of a devil that lives in this particular police box, which Saejima catches wind of after scaring away two high school girls with his grotesque trademark of a smile. As one can already guess, the rumour turns out to be a reference to none other than Saejima himself, with his frightening facial features demeanor. Already feeling dejected over his inability to attract beautiful women into his life due to these physical shortfalls, discussing his misfortune with Okita only proves to make the poor guy feel worse. After being flauntingly introduced to Okita’s bombshell girlfriend, provoked by a primary school student and forced to settle with a hideous call girl for the night, Saejima feels a new kind of low and begins to despondently reflect on his whole situation. Whilst riding through the local red light district the next day, Saejima happens to meet Shizuka, an incredibly beautiful young woman who allures the easily enticed cop into doing her a favour with an invitation back to her apartment. Could it be that Saejima’s luck has finally changed for the better? Or could it be that there is actually something more sinister awaiting him behind this flirtatious yet seemingly innocent plea…

Just to finish off, Fujisawa himself had a little something to say on his twitter today for the series.

The serialisation of “Ino-Head Gargoyle” begins in today’s Young Magazine. I really like the opening colour parts in particular. Please read it everyone~

Anyway, I’m very much looking forward to whats coming next in a week’s time. We’ll be getting another 34 pages! Keep your eyes on this space for all the latest info!
