With regards to manga and anime, when someone says ecchi I tend to think more softcore type material, where as hentai is more hardcore. This whole difference between ecchi and hentai could be something created by the westerner fan base now that I think about it though. Confused

I watched High School of the Dead yesterday and atm I really wanna see the next episode! Madhouse did a great job with the animation and the script is really well done. However I don't think the series will be that good although the action and dialogue so far has kept me interested. As for the ecchi well from my point of view it's cheesy for a Zombie inspired series lol.

Heroman is great too since I am a big Marvel fan and love that Stan Lee co produced this anime Smile C'mon it's been a dream for me if my favourite robot toy would transform and save the city Very Happy

This is probably why I'm just going through all the old titles again and again. I keep watching Ghost in the Shell (movies and both series), Wolf's Rain, all Studio Ghibli stuff, GTO, Cowboy bebop, Berserk, Evangelion etc over and over. All the old hack//sign too. Maybe I'm just getting old Razz

A lot of this new stuff seems to just be reinforcing the idea that all anime fans are perverts or immature. This is far from the case, and it certainly used to be very different. Manga is still popular from what I saw in Japan, though nowhere near what it was on my first trip in early '04. I saw many more people playing PSP's, fiddling with their phones or just listening to their mp3 players. When I first visited, everyone from office workers, to young kids, male and female, were reading various kinds of manga. There were phones, but not many with portable game devices.

I watched High School of the dead... And what do you know, so far, I like it. First anime that even remotely interested me since Kodomo No Jikan and Welcome to the NHK.

H.O.T.D. is a crowd pleaser and has gateway anime potential but lacks the depth of Kei's inner monologue and Shuya Nanahara's tragic innocence. Every scene has fan service (which is being heavily censored on The Anime Network) and gore (also heavily censored). More action than horror reminding me of Madhouse studio's other action anime Black Lagoon, whereas Black Lagoon had Remy's star potential, so far High school of the Dead hasn't delivered a stand out character. Based on the zombie horror genre, giving it a popcorn and soda appeal that caters to an American audience.

From what I've read of the manga, I can totally agree.

Speaking of fan-service, as anyone seen this interview with the director around? No surprise really.

Yeah, I was hoping it would be uncensored, but its okay so far. It's missing a lot that the manga had though...

I actually still like it. Interesting enough.

I have now started following another anime, "Blue Literature".. Boy is that depressing. I'm only 2 eps in, and it's already really deep. They're making anime versions of what apparently is old classic books in Japan.

Not trying to put people off from watching this anime but the 2nd episode of HSOD was very disappointing. I just didn't like the end part where they all meet up so easily whilst there's loads of zombies around. The cast is just not interesting since they're all High school kids and I reckon the team should be mixed up with a teacher (like Onizuka Smile and a rookie cop etc.

I know it's following the Manga but since I've never read it I'll have to past on this Anime for now. Also I notice there was less special effects than the last episode which really got me hooked in the first place Sad

Smallfry, you should read the manga, or keep on watching it. The third ep was ok, still too much censoring though.

Five episodes watched. I'm actually following an anime again!

The fan-service feels misplaced at times, and some of the fighting scenes are way over the top and unrealistic... But other than that, I really like this show.
